Mad Hatter

There is a place. Like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery, and danger! Some say to survive it: You need to be as mad as a hatter. -The Mad Hatter, from Alice and Wonderland

Right now I am feeling as mad as The Mad Hatter!  There are so many ideas swirling in my head and I just want to create, but I have orders to fulfill, products to ship, oh and did I mention a full time job plus this foxy lil business?  So to hold me over until the weekend, I thought I'd share some past designs with you all.  All hats of course, because I am entirely mad!

T-Shirt Wall Art

I am in the process of decorating our basement and didn't want to spend a lot of money on decor.  Today I had this fab idea to use t-shirts and make some fun wall art.

All you need are some picture frames that you no longer use (I got mine from my mama and Goodwill) and t-shirts in prints or colors that match your decor.  I made these for my basement the colors are chartreuse (I'm in love with chartreuse), mocha, and teal.

Step 1:  Paint your frames, I chose to use the wall paint I used for my 2 accent walls that I already painted to make sure the color matches perfectly.  Oh and with any good project made sure you have a good glass of wine (see left pic)!

Step 2:  While frames are drying cut the t-shirts.  I could it worked best if you cut them just underneath the arm pits and then down one of the seams to make a long piece.  Take your t-shirt fabric and cover the cardboard insert from the frame with the fabric.  I used fabric glue to attach the fabric.

Here is after I cut the t-shirt
Place fabric print side down and cardboard insert in the middle
Add fabric glue around the edges of cardboard
Glue down the edges all around the cardboard insert

This is what the insert should look like after the fabric is glued on

Step 3:  Once the frames have dried (you may need a few coats of paint) insert the fabric piece into the frame and ta-da you have some fabulous art pieces that match your decor!  The bright prints make these pieces even better!

Step 4:  Gaze at your masterpieces and finish off that bottle of wine!

My Kitchen is what color?

My husband and I bought our dream home a little over 2 years ago.  With our dream home came some nightmares and a lot of work.  I'll be sharing some of our home projects in my blogging journey.

Today's post is a before and after of our kitchen.  When we bought our home the color scheme was pale yellow, light blue, and pink (not mauve, Energize Bunny pink)!  The kitchen was pale yellow with blue Formica that even went up the walls.  It's a good thing we both have great imaginations or we may have run!

Kitchen Before Shots

I had been inspired to paint our kitchen black.  Anytime I told anyone that I wanted a black kitchen they looked at me horrified.  My lovely husband trusted my choice and said, "I never can envision your design, but when you are done it always looks good."  With that it was on to painting, with BLACK!

Goodbye yellow, hello BLACK!

Looking gradually better

Next step, tackle the lovely blue Formica on the walls and counters.  Let me just say how thankful I am for a strong, construction mind husband.

The floor finished, love the offset grout lines!

Kitchen After (I'm in love!)

Here is a close up of the glass mosaic tile we used.  It is absolutely breath-taking and well worth the extra money!

More home projects to follow! I would have to say our kitchen is one of my most favorite places in our home and is oh so fabulous.

Christmas in January

Yes, I know it's January and we just got done celebrating Christmas!  But I'm in the process of "de-Christmasing" my home and I just had to share a fun little way to make your tree even more fabulous...FEATHERS!  Here is an easy and cheap way to take your tree over the top.

Here's what you need:
  • Fabric/Craft Glue (I buy Fabri-Flex from Hobby Lobby $7.99)
  • Christmas bulbs
  • Feathers - to increase the amount of feathers I have in stock I buy feather boas from Hobby Lobby in different colors to pluck apart and use $6.99
Step 1:  Take the glue and your Christmas bulb and make strips of glue on the bulb.  It's easier to section the bulb off on each side, so you don't get the glue all over your fingers.
Step 2:  Take feathers and glue onto bulb, you can add as many as you like, just make sure you cover the bulb.  Do not cover the hook where you would hang the bulb.

Here's the finished product!  Your bulbs are ready to be hung on your tree!
